Bank of Elk River Partners with Meals on Wheels During Minnesota Bankers Community Impact Month

As part of Minnesota Bankers Community Impact Month, The Bank of Elk River organized its volunteer efforts around Meals on Wheels during the entire month of September.

Thirty-six bank employees volunteered 54 hours delivering more than 360 meals to seniors unable to leave their homes or unable to cook for themselves.

“Our staff is amazing. Giving back to the communities we serve is what matters to all of us,” said Julia Schreifels, director of marketing and communications at The Bank of Elk River. “Working together, we can make a small difference in the northwest metro area.”

Meals on Wheels is administered by Catholic Charities of St. Cloud. They deliver nutritious noon-hour meals to the homes of at-risk, homebound, ill, and vulnerable persons aged 60 and older in 44 communities across central Minnesota.

“Organizations like The Bank of Elk River who support us year after year are critical to the success of the Catholic Charities Meals on Wheels program,” said Carol Myhre, Meals on Wheels coordinator for Catholic Charities. “These volunteers make it possible for us to provide meals to seniors in our community who need this service.”

In addition to volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Bank of Elk River employees volunteered more than 17 hours in September at CAER Food Shelf, picking up trash at Lion’s Park in Elk River, and talking to high school students about financial literacy.

Community Impact Month was launched by the Minnesota Bankers Association in 2016. During the month participating MBA member banks engage employees in volunteer service activities, highlighting the vital role that banks play in their communities. While The Bank of Elk River devotes many hours to community-enriching projects throughout the year, the volunteer projects undertaken by dozens of banks collectively during Minnesota Bankers Community Impact Month enhance and reflect this year-round support of local communities in Minnesota.
