Chris Niskanen Named a Top Women in Finance by Finance and Commerce

The Bank of Elk River is proud to announce that Chris Niskanen, Vice President and Director of Information and Security, has been named a 2019 Top Woman in Finance by Finance and Commerce at a packed awards ceremony held yesterday at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. This exclusive honor was given to only 36 women in Minnesota across private, public, government and non-profit organizations and is a significant and notable achievement in her career.

Niskanen started at The Bank of Elk River 29 years ago as a teller and has held numerous positions throughout her career. Working her way up the proverbial ladder of success, Niskanen started out as a teller and grew into other roles including bookkeeping, operations, technology and auditor to her current position as Vice President and Director of Information Security and Technology. Niskanen took an in-house technology and operations program and developed a team of Information Technology, Security and Operations experts to help transform the bank’s systems into robust, state-of-the-art programs using benchmarked best practices. “Being selected as one of the winners of the Top Women in Finance Award is amazing,” said Niskanen. “I am honored to be a part of a truly remarkable group of women.”

Finance and Commerce recognizes outstanding women executives who are making an impact in their professions and in communities across Minnesota. A panel of experts, selected from past honorees, narrowed down the field and selected honorees across financial institutions, government entities and non-profit organizations.

"Chris is a true success story. Her accomplishments and her track record of success and growth within the bank is something to truly celebrate,” said Bill LaVigne, Chief Operating Officer at The Bank of Elk River. “She is committed to excellence and we couldn’t be more proud to have her as one of our own.”

Niskanen is committed to serving the community. She gives back by volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army and United Way. You can also see Niskanen cleaning up local parks and volunteering on Thursday evenings at the Riverfront Concerts sponsored by The Bank of Elk River.

Over 150 people attended the awards ceremony to celebrate the honorees on November 21, 2019. You can read more about Niskanen and other honorees here.
