Over 90 Banks Join Forces for Minnesota Bankers Community Impact Week

October 3, 2017

Across the state, 95 banks and over 250 branch offices joined forces last week to serve their local communities during Minnesota Bankers Community Impact Week, which took place from September 18-22.

The Bank of Elk River was one of those banks that participated in Minnesota Bankers Community Impact Week. Bank employees committed to delivering Meals on Wheels each business day in September, cleaning a nearby park, raising money for the local food shelf in a month-long social media campaign, and giving away gift cards for local businesses to unsuspecting individuals in an effort to end the week with positive acts of random kindness.

Julia Schreifels, Director of Marketing at The Bank of Elk River, believes raising awareness for how much community banks give back is truly worth celebrating.

“Every year, our organization and its employees highly prioritize volunteering their time and talents,” Schreifels said. “Investing in our local businesses and non-profit organizations has been a cornerstone of our company since its foundation in 1885. When you partner with other banks throughout the state that share those core values, you get to see firsthand what kind of impact all of our hard work can make in our local communities. It’s very inspiring.”

Mark White, MBA Board Chair and CEO of the First National Bank in Coleraine, Minnesota, also notes that many Minnesota banks have a long history of working closely with community organizations. “There are so many headline stories lately of bad things happening in the world. That’s why it’s so important that we shine a brighter light on the positive community-building work happening in our communities,” said White. “We don’t succeed if local businesses and families don’t succeed. That’s why we take our role as a community partner so seriously.”

The Minnesota Bankers Association is the state’s largest trade association devoted exclusively to the representation of commercial banks. The MBA was founded in 1889 and represents 95% of Minnesota’s chartered banks. The MBA is proud to support our member banks as they work to ensure vital communities throughout the state.
